I got back from Kenya last Tuesday evening after what proved to be an interesting trip. We had to make some adjustments when one of my sisters-in-law had an accident at Mt. Kenya that required a brief stay in the hospital. It was a new experience for me, but God was faithful and we managed to keep our itinerary plans except for visits to Upako and Banana. I saw both Peter and Francis and was able to give them $1,000 each, along with $1,000 to Alice at Each One Touch One.
We did manage to visit EOTOO and check on the condition of the children. There were many family members of the women who founded EOTOO present when we visited (they came to check us out) and here is what one of the visitors wrote to Alice:
It was a day that the Lord had made. I was pleased to finally meet Dr Stanko and his team. Their interest, enthusiasm, love for the children and commitment to make a difference in their lives were obvious. They are a happy, easy-to-be-with team. We are truly blessed to have them in our corner. God bless you all. Ritah
Here is what Francis wrote upon my return home:
It was good seeing again. You are a great man in the life of our project Upako. Thank you for the cash ($1,000) donation we received from you to feed the orphans here. May God continue his blessings to you for when you have, we get and we are happy and grateful.
All the children are in good health. Thanks for the hands that donate towards their nutrition.
Dear Dr. John,
On behalf of WAPIS I wish to pass our gratitude for your visit. In the midst of all challenges you created time for us. We thank you for the donation of $1000 you donated for it has enabled us to pay our [library] rent in arrears. On the other note the distribution of the cargo you sent is on progress and so far Kawaida Primary and Nursery Schools and Karen Academy have received their share and have passed their appreciation notes. Thanks to our partners for the lives you have transformed. The schools are on holiday for one month and we shall resume distribution when they open. We shall keep you updated.
I had hoped to get pictures of the container goods that were delivered, but was not able to do so. I am now sending Peter $250 for the delivery costs to Banana, along with money to Francis for Mary's September tuition. If you can help with these expenses or with any of those connected with our work in Kenya, please give through my website or by sending a tax-deductible check to PurposeQuest, PO Box 8882, Pittsburgh, PA 15221-0882. Thank you for your help and thank You, Lord, for Your help and protection on this last trip.
P.S. The deadline for anyone going to Kenya with me in 2015 is September 29. I am hosting another informational meeting for interested parties on Sunday, August 24 at 12:30 PM at Allegheny Center Alliance Church on the North Side. If you would like to attend that meeting, please email me and let me know.
