"Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord
your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and
an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God has
commanded you to observe the Sabbath day" - Deuteronomy 5:15.
The Israelites were once slaves in Egypt, subject to a Pharaoh that subjected them to harsh labor under oppressive conditions. Then Moses came back to Egypt and ordered Pharaoh to set God's people free. After a bitter struggle, Pharaoh complied and the people made the journey to the Promised Land flowing with milk and honey. They were to commemorate their freedom every Sabbath day by remembering where they had come from and where they presently were.
LEADERSHIP STEP: No matter how intense your work pressure to produce, God has set you free to labor for and with Him in your current position. Today take some time to reflect on God's role in your current work and thank Him for His help and provision. You can honor Him by stepping away from your normal duties and trusting Him to take care of things in your absence, while you reflect and journal your thoughts on the way He has led you throughout your career path.
