I had the privilege of giving Pastor Francis another $2,000 yesterday toward his work and needs at Upako Centre. Pastor Francis is the one who runs a community school that includes 37 orphans, all of whom stay with him and his wife. Here is what Pastor Francis had to say about the $5,000 total we were able to bring over this trip:
As you prepare to leave Kenya, I want to wish you and our donors the best of luck in all your undertakings.
Thank you very much again for the additional $2,000 that is going to cover the immediate cost as per our budget. The renovation work is going on and with the additional money, we are able to finish the painting work and cementing the damaged floors. Also covered is the cost for 15 foam mattresses, kitchen wares and what remains will go into the feeding kitty.
Me and my colleagues could not hold back tears of joy as we received the donations.Thank you so much. I will send a complete report at the end of the work. You had a wonderful team and we love all of you. God bless and keep you safe. You are such a great help for Upako children who have now known you as a father.
The picture above is Pastor Francis greeting our team last March. The other picture shows the first courtyard leveling and building painting made possible with our gifts. I have asked Pastor Francis for more and better pictures and, as I receive them, I will pass them along to you.
You can give at any time to the Sophia Fund, which goes toward feeding orphans and widows here in the midst of the drought that is getting so much media attention. We are also working on an account here that will enable me to send money over and not have to wait until I am here in person. You can give through Paypal via my website or send a check to PurposeQuest, PO Box 8882, Pittsburgh, PA 15221-0882. All contributions are tax-deductible and all money goes toward food, libraries, shoes, undergarments and other necessities of life, without being used to cover any overhead or administrative costs. Thank you for making this trip so rewarding for those who are in such desperate need.
