I just got a contribution this morning from England for $880! That was on top of the $1,000 check I got last week! I am just so delighted and honored at the response to my appeal for help to feed AIDS orphans and widows. As I wrote yesterday in my Monday Memo, however, please don't be intimidated by these large donations. If you have $5 to give, then give it. Do what you can, don't wish to do more and end up doing nothing.
I got this report from Margaret Oketch last week. Maggie heads up the SARAH Network, one organization I am using in Kenya to distribute the funds. I will be visiting with Maggie and her team in September to see firsthand how the distribution is going, but this is what she wrote:
"Each One Touch One Orphans" is an estate ladies group in Nairobi who have taken up the plight of abandoned children and are caring for them in a house which they contribute to pay rent. Although I have known one of the ladies since I was a teenager, SARAH had never had any financial dealings with them. For accountability, we decided to give them the $1,000 but in installments according to their monthly budget, and will give the 2nd installment upon receiving their expenditure report. The $1,000 will feed the orphans for 4 months."
I know that these women will be faithful overseers of our Sophia Fund resources and want to urge you to do what you can to help them and others like them who are doing what they can to impact the world around them. Thank you for your support.
