It's In God's Hands
Why Write?

Perspective

My wife returned home yesterday from her jewelry trunk show in Washington DC.  From all reports, the show was a great success.  Sales were strong and they invited her to have another show in the fall.  She drove home last night and we stayed up late, chatting and catching up on the events of the week.  The show certainly wasn't the only major event that took place.

Kathryn was staying with family last week in the DC area.  While she was with them, their house caught on fire due to a faulty fireplace and suffered a lot of damage.  Now we are looking back to see the hand of God that prevented anyone from being hurt or killed.  If the fire would have happened as it did after they went to bed, no one would probably have survived.

An event like that certainly puts life into proper perspective, doesn't it?  So much of what I fret over isn't worth the time I invest in it, and too often I am too busy to fully comprehend and live in the fullness of two biblical truths:  "My times are in your hands" (Psalm 31:15) and "In him we live and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28).  So we are thanking God that we are alive and together, reminded that God is in control and is protecting and helping us as we go about our daily business.

Do you have anything "basic" for which you are grateful today?  Can you thank God for those around you, for food, air, health and His protection?  I hope you can and that you will join us as we celebrate life this week, life that has been given and preserved by God's grace.
