"I press on toward the goal to win the prize
for which God has called me heavenward
in Christ Jesus" - Philippians 3:14.
Paul wanted to win the prize. Goals speak of winners and losers. If you set the goal, you may not make it. If you don't set the goal, you definitely won't make it. Where goal-setting is concerned, however, it is better to be sorry than safe, for the joys of achieving a goal is far greater than any regret of failure. What prize are you seeking in life? Are you afraid of losing so much that you don't even try to win the prize? Are you afraid to admit it to yourself?
Lord, I want to achieve, but sometimes I am so afraid of losing that I don't even try, or talk myself out of it. Then at other times I am not sure it's consistent with Your will to achieve the prize and I get bogged down. Help me, Lord, with my fears and confusion, and then help me focus on the prize of the goals in my heart!
