Kenya Happenings

There is not much to report from Kenya, although I did get two short updates.  Here is the first update from Pastor Peter:

Dear Dr. John,

1 Pst Peter w:kidsWe here at WAPIS are okay and everyone is doing okay. We wish to let you know that everything is moving on well and the students are responding positively to our new learning culture. This library will always be remembered as a beacon of hope. Tomorrow in our country is the Heroes Day and we felt we needed to send you a message of congratulations as a hero in our society and a champion of education. God bless you as you prepare the whole team to come in February.

He is the reason for our living.

Pastor Peter

Of course, the real heroes are those you have supported the work in Kenya, whether through your donations of books and resources, through your prayer, or your financial gifts. As I promised, I wired Pastor Francis $500 last week and here is what he wrote (that's a picture of me with Pastor Francis when I visited him last March):

Hi Dr. John,

I am happy to let you know that we received the money. This is a timely help and it's going to boost us 1 Francis and Me as we started this school term with very little. It has come at a vary right time when we were in real need of food. Thank you for keeping our stomach warm and i trust God for even bigger things to keep these orphans strong and well taken care of in terms of their daily  basic needs.

Experience God's peace and all good things,

Pastor Francis

Our goal is $30,000 raised by February 1, of which $1,500 has already arrived.  For this, I thank God.  I pray that you will stay connected to the work there through prayer and giving what you can toward the work in Kenya. You can give through my website or by sending a tax-deductible check to PurposeQuest, PO Box 8882, Pittsburgh, PA 15221-0882. I will need a lot of heroes if we are to reach this goal.  Thank you in advance for your role.

P.S. I am collecting books, art and school supplies, shoes (both new and used, men's, women's and kid's) books and educational resources to ship to Kenya.  I need them in October, however, if they are going to be included in this year's shipment.

PURPOSE SEMINAR:  I am hosting a purpose seminar here in Pittsburgh on Saturday, November 3, from noon to 3:30.  It's free but space is limited, so send me an email so I can get you registered if you are interested.

RADIO:  Don't forget that I am on radio on Saturdays from 8 am to 9 am on WPIT 73 AM here in Pittsburgh.  You can listen online, however, or download the WPIT mobile app and listen on your phone. You can also call in at 412.333.9748.  I have had calls from Florida and Nebraska, so you don't have to be local to join in the fun.

HALLOWEEN ARTICLE:  I wrote a popular article years ago entitled, "Unmasking Halloween." If you need some info on this day's sordid roots, then check out the article on my website.
