Proverbs 30:8

Your daily dose of Proverbs:

"Keep falsehood and lies far from me;
give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread" - 30:8.

When you think of it, your daily needs for today should be your only focus. Why fret about tomorrow? Thank God for what you have today and trust Him for tomorrow's provision. Then work today on your integrity and character, even if you are experiencing lean times. You can read more about this discipline in Philippians 4:10-13 and Ephesians 4:14-16

Proverbs 29:7

Your daily dose of Proverbs:

"The righteous care about justice for the poor,
but the wicked have no such concern" - 29:7.

The Bible is full of commands to care for the poor, and Jesus emphasized this ministry as well. As you approach Christmas, what can you do to help the poor?  What more can you do year-round to promote justice for the downtrodden or to help alleviate their suffering?  Read what Jesus had to say about this in Luke 12:22-34, then decide how you are going to fulfill it!

Proverbs 28:27

Your daily dose of Proverbs:

"He who gives to the poor will lack nothing,
but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses" - 28:27.

When you ignore the poor, you are in trouble with God. When you take care of them, God takes care of you. Can some of your current financial problems be due to your own neglect of those who are close to God's heart? Find the poor someplace in your world today, bless them and keep on blessing them. Read God's instructions to Israel in Deuteronomy 15:7-11 and see that God has communicated his concern for the poor in the Old Testament Law!

Proverbs 27:26-27

Your daily dose of Proverbs:

"The lambs will provide you with clothing . . . You will have
plenty of goats' milk to feed you and your family . . . " - 27:26-27.

Are you worried about provision?  You need not be! The Lord knows how to provide for you and your family and for all the families under his care. To see an example of how He once did this, read 2 Kings 4:1-7 and then be encouraged that God can do the same thing for you if you ever need it.

Proverbs 26:27

Your daily dose of Proverbs:

"If a man digs a pit, he will fall into it;
if a man rolls a stone, it will roll back on him" - 26:27.

You cannot escape the fact that you reap what you sow. What's' more, God responds to you the way you respond to Him! For example, if you are merciful to others, He will be merciful to you.  So in some ways, you control how God reacts to you, once again reaping what you sow! If you need more proof of this truth, then read Psalm 18:24-27 and Psalm 41:1-4.

Proverbs 25:21

Your daily dose of Proverbs:

"If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat;
if he is thirsty, give him water to drink" - 25:21.

You are to treat your enemies like friends, for this is just what God does! He causes the sun to shine on the just and the unjust. How well are you treating those who are not only not your friends, but who also may be mistreating you?  Read Jesus' instruction on how to relate to your enemies in Matthew 5:43-48 and what Paul wrote about the same in Romans 13:8-10.

Off to Africa

I depart today (Friday) for Zimbabwe, going through Atlanta and Johannesburg.  If you live in Zimbabwe, I hope to see you at one of my sessions this coming week through His Generation Church.  Then I am off to Kenya on December 4.  Let me know if you would like to have a one-on-one purpose session with me while I am there.

I wired $2,500 to Pastor Peter to get started on the library project (I have $500 more with me, also for the renovations).  Here is what I received from Pastor Peter this week:

John,

First we thank God for all your effort and the much He has enabled you to achieve. We received the money on Friday and we have managed to buy some materials required for the work and today Monday the work has already started and we trust by the time you come to Kenya on 4th a lot of work will be done.

On behalf of wapis creation and the community at large would like to say a big thank you for making our dream come true. We want to thank all the supporters of this work and we pray to God to enlarge their territory like he did to Jabez and His word may be a lamp in their foot and a light in their path according to Psalm 119:105. I have attached the receipt of acknowledgment of receiving the money and the exchange rates.

 Yours in Christ,

 Pastor Peter

Attached is the receipt, for I want you to know that the money you gave is being used for the purpose to which you donated.  There is still time to give through my website (you can use PayPal but don't have to register for PayPal; you can simply use your credit card) or by sending a check to PurposeQuest, PO Box 8882, Pittsburgh, PA 15221-0882.

I will keep you posted on my visits to both countries. I would appreicate your prayers.

Proverbs 24:31

Your daily dose of Proverbs:

"Thorns had come up everywhere,
the ground was covered with weeds" - 24:31.

Life, like farming, is a constant cycle of sowing and reaping. When you stop tending and sowing, whether it is financial or spiritual things, the weeds overtake your fields. What are you harvesting these days? Do you have a bumper crop of good things or a field full of weeds due to laziness, neglect or fear? You can read Paul's words in 2 Corinthians 9:6-15 to be further instructed in this spiritual truth.

Proverbs 23:5

Your daily dose of Proverbs:

"Cast a glance at riches, and they are gone,
for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle" - 23:5.

If money is your goal, you are pursuing a moving target that comes and goes! Jesus urged you to store up treasures in heaven, not here on earth. Are you using your earthly treasure to make deposits into your heavenly account or is wealth your final and only objective?  You can read Jesus' words on this matter in Matthew 6:19-24.

Proverbs 22:9

Your daily dose of Proverbs:

"A generous man will himself be blessed,
for he shares his food with the poor" - 22:9.

This is the time of year when people think more of helping others. What can you do between now and Christmas to share what you have with someone who has little or nothing? There is a blessing in it for you when you do!  When the Lord first presented the Law to Israel, much of it had to do with how to care for the poor as you can read in Leviticus 25:25-54
